Tim Seifert blazed his one-day career best unbeaten 109* off just 71 balls for Northern Districts, but Canterbury was on a mission to lock in their spot in The Ford Trophy Finals.

Bouncing back from a hard loss against the Stags, the result took the red and blacks to a two-point lead over the Auckland Aces with one round remaining, setting up a top-of-the-table showdown this Sunday in Rangiora with the Aucklanders to determine who gets direct entry to this summer's Grand Final.

Tim Seifert was the out-and-out star for Northern in this rain-reduced contest at a misty Seddon Park, blasting a one-day career-best unbeaten 109* off just 71 balls after the hosts had been sent in.

In a match reduced to 39 overs, Northern’s 262/5 set a required rate of almost seven per over for Canterbury, but Rhys Mariu’s 87 at the top initially put Canterbury well on track.

It was the young batter's first List A half ton.

Northern fought back with a clump of wickets, but Canterbury operate with a clinical calm, and timely sixes from Zak Foulkes and Michael Rippon managed to get the chase back into run-a-ball territory.

Foulkes was a big wicket for Kristian Clarke in the tight chase, but Canterbury ultimately got home with three wickets in hand - and 11 balls to spare.
