The England Women won the toss and elected to bat in hot, sunny conditions in the first Women’s World Cup Super Six match at Bankstown Oval, Sydney.
The White Fern attack, backed up by outstanding ground fielding restricted England to 142 for four after 43 overs with only the English captain Charlotte Edwards showing any freedom against the line and length bowling.
England then took their batting power-play and took the score to 201 for five, losing the wicket of Edwards along the way but amassing a valuable 55 runs.
A full blow to the left side of the face was taken by wicketkeeper Rachel Priest from a ball that was hit fine by Taylor, this meant that Lucy Doolan had to keep wicket while Priest received medical care. Priest returned to finish the innings.
Sarah Tsukigawa returned excellent figures of 30 for one off her ten overs.
The White Ferns began their chase cautiously being 30 for one after ten overs with Kate Pulford the first wicket to fall.
Demanding bowling inhibited the batsmen, particularly from off spinner Laura Marsh, who finished her spell with 21 for two.
White Ferns captain Haidee Tiffen, who opened, was the highest scorer with 53 before being well caught on the off drive when the team total was 126.
England skipper Charlotte Edwards backed up her fine bowling display to finish with four for 37 with the ball.
The White Ferns now look to India on Tuesday.
