England have beaten the White Ferns by 60 runs in the second ODI at Bert Sutcliffe Oval to secure an unassailable two nil lead in the best of three series.
Rain shortened the match to 26 overs a side, but the English still managed to post New Zealand a total of 224 to win.
The White Ferns opted to bowl first and managed to dismiss Laura March for just 15. From then on though it was all Charlotte Edwards who posted an incredible 137 not out after 26 overs.
The English Captain had an answer for everything.
Sarah Taylor was next best with 39 as England accumulated an imposing total of 224 for six.
While Edwards deserves a lot of the credit for the huge score, it wasn't a bowling performance which resembled the usually high standards the Ferns have. Rachel Candy was the best of the New Zealand bowlers with figures of two for 43 from nine overs.
The White Ferns chase saw an encouraging first wicket partnership of 44, before Katey Martin was dismissed for 22. Many of the batting line-up made starts, but it was only Amy Satterthwaite who managed to push on with 69. It was a great innings from Satterthwaite who showed some real determination.
New Zealand though couldn’t keep the run-rate in check and it quickly became clear England would again finish the victors.
On the final ball of the 26th overs the White Ferns were all out for 164 .
Anya Shrubsole once again caused problems for the Ferns and finished with the impressive figures of three for 28 from five overs.
The third and final ODI will be played on Monday.
