Wellington Blaze take out women's State League Twenty20 final

After losing yesterdays State League one-day final, The State Wellington Blaze turned the tables to beat the State Canterbury Magicians to take out the Twenty20 competition at the Basin Reserve.

Canterbury were rolled in the nineteenth over with 123 on the board and Wellington reached the total with three balls and four wickets remaining.

The Magicians started solidly with Frankie Mackay and Maria Fahey putting on 57 for the first wicket but the loss of Mackay for 20 sparked a collapse.  Fahey top scored with 37.

Amanda Cooper took three scalps with Sophie Devine, Anna Dodd and Lucy Doolan picking up two each.

White Fern all-rounder Doolan opened for the Blaze and smashed 61 off 51 to set up the win.

Elizabeth Perry was the only other Wellington batsman to make double figures with 22.

Mackay returned the best figures for the visitors taking two for 32.

It was a fair reward for the Wellington Blaze who have set the bench mark for women’s domestic cricket all season.
