Wellington Blaze Beat Otago Sparks to Make it Six in a Row

The Wellington Blaze chose to bat after winning the toss in a repeat of yesterdays State League clash against the Otago Sparks at Karori Park.

The match played out in a very similar fashion to their previous meeting with Otago keeping Wellington to a modest total but the Wellington bowlers doing the business and rolling their opposition well short of their target.

The classy Wellington line up again failed to deliver with the bat, being all out for 120 and only scored seven boundaries in their innings.

Lucy Doolan, 22, Megan Wakefield, 25, and Kerry-Anne Tomlinson, 23, couldn't capitalise on their starts as the Otago bowling unit proved difficult to get away.

Tanya Morrison's off breaks were again proving hard to read as she backed up her three wickets yesterday with figures of four for 16 off ten overs, including four maidens.

All-rounder Sarah Tsukigawa was threatening taking two for 34 and Sarah Bates was miserly picking up a wicket and only going for 22 runs in her ten overs.

A confident Wellington outfit never looked like losing once they had the ball in their hands, dismissing the last Otago batsman with only 52 on the board in the 42st over - 68 runs behind..

Anna Dodd on the most lethal, taking three for 12 in her ten overs.  Sophie Devine, Sian Ruck and Lucy Doolan picked up two apiece.

Although wicketless, Amanda Cooper piled on the pressure, only going for one run in her six over spell.

Wellington are riding high this season and are well clear at the top of the table with six wins from six games - Otago move down to fifth.
