Volts lead the way in the State Twenty20

After three rounds the State Otago Volts have chalked their third State Twenty20 win, this time against the State Central Stags at Pukekura Park in New Plymouth.

The Volts chose to bat first and made a massive 206 – the third time this season they have passed 200.

Again it was the Otago opening pair of Aaron Redmond and Hamish Rutherford that got them off to a flyer sharing a 54 run partnership before Rutherford was dismissed for 35.

Redmond kicked on smacking 67 off 46 including seven fours and two sixes.

Greg Todd was also in good touch striking 31 off 19 as was Dimitri Mascarenhas who made 22 off 9.

Captain Nathan McCullum finishing the innings off with an unbeaten 40 off 22.

The Stags chased positively and were on track but the loss of Kieran Noema-Barnett for 38 off 18 in the thirteenth over and captain Mathew Sinclair for 61 off 42 in the fourteenth spelt the end.

Volts pace man Warren McSkimming took three for 33 with Ian Butler and Mascasrenhas picking up two scalps each.

McSkimming is second on in the State Twenty20 MVP rankings behind McCullum who is first.

The Otago Volts are the only unbeaten team after three rounds with the Central Stags yet to record a point.
