Satterthwaite dominates for Magicians

Amy Satterthwaite scored her third half century in four matches and took four wickets to lead the Canterbury Wizards to a comprehensive 94 run win over the Otago Sparks at University Oval.

While Otago struggled to deal with the lively pitch, Canterbury showed that it didn’t have too many demons by rattling up 225 for eight in their 50 overs after being put into bat and then rolled the home side for 131 in 34.4 overs.

Satterthwaite was in good touch, using 80 balls to hit 74 in a fluent innings that included eight boundaries.  She has been the mainstay of the Canterbury line up this season with an average over 40 and is their highest placed player on the MVP table.

Amber Boyce (34 off 36) and Michelle Mitchell (27 off 16) boosted the total with some late hitting.

Katey Martin got the Sparks off to a lively reply, pelting 32 off 26 but when she went with the score on 44 a collapse ensued that they couldn’t recover from.

Satterthwaite was the one who took the prize wicket of Martin and then had the other danger player Sarah Tsukigawa and eventually finished with four for 38.

Spinner Frances Mackay polished off the tail to have a useful return of three for 10 off 3.4 overs.

The result sees the Otago Sparks replace the Canterbury Wizards at the bottom of the table with the two teams meeting tomorrow in their final match of the competition.
