SA beat NZA in one off 50 over match

New Zealand A suffered a five wicket loss against South Africa in a 50-0ver match at Peter Burge Oval in Brisbane.

Batting first New Zealand struggled through to 187 with the last wicket falling in the 47th over with South Africa making 188 for five in reply.

It was a promising start with BJ Watling making 53 at the top of the order and opening partner Anaru Kitchen contributing a useful 36.

However, the rest of the top and middle order failed to make any significant impact with fast bowler Doug Bracewell's  rapid 32 off 27 late in the innings the only other score of note.

The South African reply was led by opener Reeza Hendricks who top scored with 60 with the rest of the specialist batsmen all chipping in with middling scores.

Part time medium pacer Dean Brownlie took two cheap wickets late in the match to finish with two for eight off three overs while Trent Boult, Todd Astle and Bruce Martin took one apiece.

New Zealand A face the Australian Institute of Sport on Monday 1 August in their first three-day match.
