The State Auckland Aces lost to the State Northern Knights by seven wickets in a rain affected match at Seddon Park in Hamilton.
The match was reduced to 34 overs after persistent drizzle delayed the start.
Auckland got of to a flyer with opening batsman Martin Guptill in great touch, hitting 124 off 97 balls.
Guptill struck 11 fours and four sixes in his highest State Shield score with the remaining Auckland batsman contributing 64 runs between them.
Bruce Martin was the best of the Northern bowlers returning tidy figures of one for 24 off his seven overs.
The Knights chased down the total with 14 balls to spare and opening batsman BJ Watling unbeaten on 93.
Watling was supported by captain Hamish Marshall who scored 34 and eighteen year old Kane Williamson who was also there at the end on 36 not out.
