Northern earn bragging rights

Northern Districts have beaten rivals Central Districts by 19 runs in their Twenty20 match at the Under-18 tournament in Lincoln.

Northern somehow managed to post 144 from their 20 overs and then proceeded to keep Central to a low run rate to claim a very pleasing victory.

Northern opted to bat first and got bits and pieces from everywhere in the order. Tim Seifert at the top made 23 and Luke Williamson also did well by top scoring with 31.

A lot of the rest came down to the middle and lower order, such as the efforts of Cameron Gibbons who chipped in with 27.

In the end Northern finished their 20 overs at 144 for eight.

In reply Central’s run chase was all about two men, James McDougall and Arana Noema-Barnett. Both have been outstanding all tournament and again today showed their worth by each picking up 50s.

Unfortunately no one around them got above six and the partnership they desperately needed never came to fruition.

In the end the asking rate was too much for either batsmen and Central were left with too much to do.

At the end of 20 overs Central sat at 125 for six and still 20 runs short of victory.
