Nicola Browne Stars as ND Beat Canterbury

The Northern Spirit kept the Canterbury Magicians to 159 after winning the toss and electing to bat in their State League match at QEII Park in Christchurch.

The Canterbury batsman never got going with captain Haidee Tiffen again top scoring with 30 before being run out.

Kate Pulford was particularly accurate taking two for 16 off her ten. Right arm medium pacer, Emily Wilson was Northern’s leading wicket taker with three for 39.

The Northern Spirit only needed 41.2 overs to reach the target and only lost three wickets in the process.

Kate Pulford set a solid foundation at the top of the order with 35 off 42 balls and half centuries to Wicketkeeper batsman Anna Wilkins (51) and the red hot Nicola Browne (54*) finished the job.

Browne has been in top form this season with her latest innings taking her average to 104 after five rounds of State League.

The win gives Northern their first points of the season and they will be hoping to build on this good performance.
