India A go 1-nil up

Game Three

India A has taken a 1-0 series lead in the One Day series in Visakhapatnam, after leg-spinner Karn Sharma claimed figures of 5-22 to help bowl New Zealand A out for 143.

The visitors made a promising start after opting to bat first, with George Worker and Colin Munro posting a brisk 39-run opening stand.

Both players would fall in quick succession and although captain Henry Nicholls (35) and BLACKCAPS all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme (24) combined for a 37 run stand, Sharma would account for their wickets and most of the lower order.

The Indian spinner, who claimed 16 wickets in the First-Class games, was the sixth bowler used by the hosts and took five of the last seven wickets, as New Zealand A collapsed from 134-4 to all-out for 143 in the space of eight overs.

India A initially made hard work of the small chase, reduced to 23-3 in eighth over, as New Zealand spinners Todd Astle and Ish Sodhi claimed wickets alongside pace bowler Lockie Ferguson, while Seth Rance bowled economically.

After the initial wobbles, Vijay Shankar (47 not-out) and Deepak Hooda (35 not-out) ensured India A reached the target in the 25th over.

The teams have a day off before contesting the fourth One Dayer on Friday October 13th, with the final game on the 15th.

The BLACKCAPS will name the final five players for their 15-man limited overs squad to take on India at the end of the series.

Game Two
New Zealand A fell just short of recording their first victory on Indian soil, tying their first completed game of the One Day series against India A in Visakhapatnam.

Canterbury leg-spinner Todd Astle was the pick of the bowlers from both sides, claiming 4-22 from his nine overs - sparkling figures in a high scoring contest.

India A looked to be out of the contest at 84-5, but a 126-run stand between captain Shreyas Iyer (90) and Ankit Bawne (83*) saw them take the game down to the wire.

Needing 22 of the final two overs and then 11 off the last, the Indians would tie the game on the final ball of the day-night epic.

Having lost the first game to rain, the series has three matches left and still remains nil-all.
