Martin celebrates milestone with victory

Katey Martin had two reasons to celebrate on Saturday, as the 27 year-old brought up her 100th match for the province with a comprehensive 116 win over the Central Hinds.

Played at Cornwall Park in Hastings, the Sparks posted 213 for eight in the first innings. They then proceeded to roll the Hinds for 97 after just 26.4 overs to claim the points.

Little resistance was put up from the home side, with veteran Sara McGlashan top scoring with 31 and wicket-keeper Rachel Priest next best with 30.

Apart from that though the wickets came thick and fast and the match was wrapped up early.  Amongst the wickets were Emma Campbell who took four and Suzie Bates who snared three.

Earlier, Katey Martin had suitably top scored with 69 to take her side past the 200 mark.

Alongside Martin, six other players got scores of 14 or above to ensure the total would be a competitive one.

Maneka Singh continued her great form with the ball this season with figures of three for 35 from seven.

The win keeps the southerners in touch with leaders Auckland Hearts.
