After a tough start of the season, the fourth round of the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield finally delivered the goods for Canterbury as they took their revenge against the Sparks in Rangiora.
Otago's captain Felicity Robertson won the toss and batted, and would lead the way for her side with the top score of 60.

But in the meantime, Kate Anderson (1/6) and Nicola Clayton (3/30) had both struck early to removed the openers and, after Robertson's third-wicket stand with Caitlin Blakely was stopped at 93/3, no one else stuck with her.
The Robertson/Blakely double act had looked full of promise.
Their partnership reached 65 before tall debutante Boadicea Lynch had her maiden Canterbury wicket when Blakely was suddenly caught behind on 48.

Lynch, a right-arm pace bowler, had opened the attack with Clayton, and would go on to snaffle 2/38 in her exciting first outing.
She claimed the big wicket of Polly Inglis as well, trapping her on eight with some deceptive movement in the air, and from there the dressing room door started swinging as Robertson searched for someone to stay with her.
The Sparks were bowled out for 180 in the 45th over, opening the door for the Magicians to conjure up a winning chase, this time.

Frankie Mackay (50) again top-scored for the embattled hosts with a half century, but this time some late order runs came to help the Magicians get across the line.
Izzy Sharp (45) and Jodie Dean (34 not out) combined in a 71-run sixth-wicket stand that helped restore calm after some middle order chaos, the Magicians chasing down their target in the 43rd over with four wickets still in hand.

Relief in Rangiora for a side that now had a lot of work to do to get back to the right end of the table, still anchored to the bottom of the ladder despite the sorely needed win.
