Magicians finish on top

The Canterbury Magicians remain unbeaten in the Women’s Twenty20 domestic competition, having toppled the Central Hinds in their last round-robin match at MainPower Oval, Rangiora.

The Magicians were unconvincing on their way to 100 for seven in the first innings, but good bowling meant they were able to keep the Hinds to 90 for six and claim a ten run victory.

Rachel Priest (17), Emma Richardson (19) and Kelly Rangi (32*) were the only players to show any resistance in the pursuit. Rangi in particular was impressive and remained unbeaten at the end, but she was short on support.
The rest of the middle and top order were kept to single digits, as three run-outs devastated their chances. Lea Tahuhu also had her day, grabbing two wickets in her four overs for 17.

Earlier, it had been a combined effort from the home side to scrape together 100.

Hayley Jensen started off the innings with 18, but that would be the top score amongst the top five batsmen.

Meg Kendal steadied the ship somewhat with an unbeaten 18, while Erin Birmingham made what would turn out to be a valuable 13.
It saw them reach triple digits, albeit in the most unconvincing of fashions.

All six of the Hinds bowlers took a wicket each, while key player Amy Satterthwaite was run-out.

The Magicians now face the Blaze in the final, where they will defend their total.
