Magicians edge Blaze - again

The Canterbury Magicians have bowled brilliantly to claim a close win over the Wellington Blaze for the second day in a row.

After being held to just 98 from their 20 overs the Magicians somehow managed to snatch a six run victory at Lincoln University.

For the first time this season none of the top three batsmen for Canterbury fired and combined for just 15.

The Blaze bowling attack were incredibly accurate and constantly applied pressure on the Canterbury batsmen, but the defending champions managed to keep some respectability to their score.

Mandie Godliman (16), Hayley Jensen (28) and Erin Bermingham (21*) made sure that their bowlers would have something to defend as they helped to get the Magicians to 98 for seven.

It was an impressive display with the ball from Wellington, successfully restricting the run-rate to ensure their chase wouldn’t be a large one.

In reply Wellington knew that it would only take one decent partnership to take the game away from the Magicians, but they lost wickets from the get go.

Sarah Taylor looked like she could be the one to lead the Blaze to victory until she was run out in the 12th over.
Mindy Hodgson looked to be leading the Blaze to victory making 26 from 38 deliveries. Unfortunately though it wouldn’t be enough as Canterbury managed to contain the Blaze batting line-up to 92.

It was brilliant bowling from the home side to claim victory with Amy Satterthwaite bowling her four overs for just 11 runs.
