Knights snatch one wicket win

Northern Knights tail-enders Bradley Scott and Brent Arnel engineered an unlikely one wicket win over the Canterbury Wizards in the HRV Cup match at QEII Park in Christchurch.

The Knights were in all sorts of trouble at 75 for eight in pursuit of 128 before some late heroics got them across the line.

Needing 15 off the final over Scott and Arnel hit 11 off the first five leaving a boundary required off the final ball.  Scott not only found the rope, he cleared to finish unbeaten on 20 and win the match for the visitors.

Tim Southee gave the Knights the momentum required with 32 off only 16 deliveries late in the innings to get them within sight of victory.

The stunning win took the gloss off an incredible spell of bowling by spinner Rob Nicol who sneered five for 22 and looked to have the Wizards in the box seat.

Nicol and Southee are the big movers in the HRV Cup MVP, occupying first and second place respectively.

Canterbury batsmen Michael Papps and Johannes Myburgh both top scored with 28 as the home side struggled to get any fluency in their innings.

All rounder Joseph Yovich was the pick of the Northern bowlers with three for 26 with Southee completing an great all round match by taking two for 32.

The win sees the Northern Knights hold onto fourth spot on the points table after four rounds with the Canterbury Wizards languishing in last place.
