Hopkins leads Aces to seven wicket win

The Auckland Aces handed the Central Stags their first defeat in the HRV Cup when they comfortably chased down 155 at Colin Maiden Park, Auckland.

Captain Gareth Hopkins starred with the bat, striking and unbeaten 71 from 44 and was supported by Scott Styris who hit 45 not out from 36.

The pair came together with the side teetering on 32 for three but put on 124 to guide their team home by seven wickets, with ten balls to spare.

MVP overall leader Michael Mason took the tidy figure of two for 21.

Earlier, Stags opener Mathew Sinclar lashed 69 from 54 but lacked support from the rest of the line up with Kieran Noema-Barnett’s 16 the next best.

Colin de Grandhomme was outstanding with the ball taking three for 22 including the prize wicket of Jacob Oram and both openers.  Styris and Daryl Tuffey chimed in with two apiece.

The Central Stags remain on top of the table after four rounds with the Auckland Aces in third spot.
