Central Hinds beat Northern Districts by 86 runs

Fresh off their fourth highest List A total just 23 hours earlier, the Central Hinds today posted their second highest ever HBJ total in their rematch with Northern Districts - and with another fighting reply from ND making an excellent game of it.
Set up by an explosive half century from first drop Jess Watkin, the Hinds powered towards a tally of 294 all out in exactly 50 overs.
Watkin smashed 87 off just 62 balls, including five sixes and eight fours, and after she was trapped by ND captain Kate Anderson just a baker's dozen short of what would have been her second one-day century, Hannah Rowe picked up where Watkin left off with a half century of her own.
Rowe blasted 61 off 56 balls - just one shy of Rowe's List A career best, and again the Hinds had had more than one player step up with the bat to get a formidable score on the board.
Watkin had dominated a 54-run stand with captain Natalie Dodd (22) for the second wicket, then the pivotal 77-run stand for the third wicket with Kerry Tomlinson (26) .
While the ND attack chipped away with regular wickets shared around the attack, they were outpaced by the bold hitting on a good surface.
Captain Anderson had kept things relatively tight with 2-43 off her 10 overs, and she stepped up with the bat as well to get her side off to a strong start in the chase.
Anderson slammed 54 off 48 balls at the top, including eight boundaries, leading the charge after the early loss of wicketkeeper-batter Holly Topp who was an early victim of spinning allrounder Watkin (3-55).
That was but a brief blip for the ND top order, with Anderson and Nensi Patel (36, above) putting on a 74-run stand for the second wicket to give their side a boost.
Anderson was a big wicket for young spinner Ashtuti Kumar in the 18th over, but former WHITE FERN Sam Barriball (below) came in to keep the momentum and runs flowing with another half century - reaching 55 at run-a-ball pace before Monique Rees (3-27) stopped her charge in the 35th over.
By then ND was eight down, and Barriball had just lost three partners in quick succession.
The pressure fell on her shoulders as she pummelled the boundary, the ND 200 coming into sight.
It was a crucial dismissal - and from there the Hinds regained full control, wrapping up their second bonus point victory of the weekend with 11.5 overs in hand.
