Seemingly unstoppable captain Sophie Devine was once again the star performer for Wellington Blaze at the Basin Reserve in round six of the Women's One-Day Competition, charging to an unbeaten 96 off 78 balls, with two of her three sixes soaring over the sightscreen as her hard hitting set up a solid 106-run win over competition leaders the Auckland Hearts.

After having slammed the fastest Twenty20 century in New Zealand domestic history on Friday (in 44 balls; bettering the men’s record of 45 balls that had been set by former BLACKCAP and Central Stag Jamie How), Devine finished the weekend with a tally of 202 runs across the two formats, having slaughtered 12 sixes and 17 fours from 125 balls and, with a washout in between, ending her three days at the Basin undefeated in both innings, stopping just four runs shy of what would have represented her seventh domestic one-day century for the Blaze.
Devine had support today at the top from a Rebecca Burns half-century and Rachel Priest (44) as the Blaze set an imposing 259/8.
Anna Peterson, who had been the best of the Hearts attack with 3-39, top-scored in response with a quick 47, but didn’t enjoy the same support as the Hearts crumbled to 153/9 in 37.5 overs, Lauren Down having been unable to bat.
Domestic competition resumes on Friday 29 January (Women’s Twenty20, round four), followed on 30 and 31 January by rounds seven and eight of the Women’s One-Day Competition at Fitzherbert Park, Palmerston North (Central Hinds v Wellington Blaze), Hagley Oval, Christchurch (Canterbury Magicians v Otago Sparks) and Bruce Pulman Park, Auckland (Auckland Hearts v Northern Spirit).
