Hamilton have once again shown their class in their match against Nelson and claimed an 118 run win over the South Islanders.
Nelson had surprised Hamilton by claiming first innings points, but a rampant display with the ball dismissed Nelson for just 93 in their second innings.
It was an unusually unconvincing display from the Waikato lads in the first innings, only managing to post 210.
Anton Devcich was almost the lone resistance for his side, making a superb 105 in his time at the middle.
The low score was largely thanks to a remarkable display of bowling from Nelson’s Marty King.
King claimed incredible figures of seven for 57 from 25 overs. He added two more in Hamilton’s second innings to finish with overall figures of nine for 98.
In reply Greg Hay gave his side a sniff of first innings points with 62, but it was the lower order who did the job for Nelson.
Mitchell Drummond played beautifully for his unbeaten 76 and took Nelson to a final first innings score of 262, making sure that his side didn’t leave empty handed.
However the second innings saw the Hamilton batting line-up dig their heels in. Lance Martin was instrumental with 60 and was helped out by a number of his fellow batsmen.
In the end Hamilton posted an impressive third innings score of 263.
Connor Neynens supplied the bowling threat this time and picked up figures of five for 89 from 16 overs.
Nelson’s chase for victory never really got going.
Opener Dan Cooper made 32, but couldn’t find a partner to go with him and Nelson were eventually dismissed for 93, still 119 runs short of their target.
It was a combined bowling effort from the Hamilton bowlers, with Bradley Scott collecting the best figures of three for nine from eight overs.
The Hamilton juggernaut continues.
