Northern Districts captain Joe Carter has continued his good form in all formats this season with a match-winning Ford Trophy and List A one-day career-best hundred this afternoon.

Carter's unbeaten 105* off 95 balls in Auckland - his second century at this level, in 40 matches - edged his previous PB of 102* scored against the Central Stags in 2018/19.

In hot conditions, the class knock also formed part of a new record second-wicket partnership in matches for ND against the Auckland Aces as Carter combined with Jeet Raval to go after the Aces' 221 all out - the experienced pair piling on 177 for the second wicket to break the interprovincial mark of 163 between the two teams that had been set by BJ Watling and Kane Williamson at Colin Maiden Park in 2009/10.

Raval missed out on his fifth List A one-day century when he feathered an edge off Aces spinner Will Somerville on 97, caught behind at 195/2 with just 27 runs required for victory.

Earlier, ND went in with a three-prong spin attack as Ish Sodhi (2-54) returned to action and picked up a key wicket in Glenn Phillips to halt an Aces recovery at 89/4.

Seamer Anurag Verma had done the damage at the top with 3-29 - alongside the deadly arm of Mitch Santer that ran out George Worker at 27/2, with Aces keeper-batsman Ben Horne top-scoring for the hosts with a fighting 45 before they were dismissed in the final over, after having been sent in.

Northern Districts had headed into the match sitting at the wrong end of the table, but now rise to fourth spot after picking up their first bonus point of the season while the Aces instead now occupy the bottom rung of the ladder.

The next Ford Trophy round is a rematch between the same sides at the same venue this Wednesday 12 January.

The competition then takes a break for the business end of Dream11 Super Smash until 1 February.
