A draw looms following day two of the West Indies XI match against the New Zealand XI at Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln.

The NZ XI declared on their overnight score of 227 for eight, giving the West Indies batsmen a chance to see the wicket for the first time.

While Kirk Edwards and Chadwick Walton only made small starts, the same could not be said for Shivarine Chanderpaul, who showed all of his class in a knock of 89 off 106 balls.

He found aid in Otago Volt’s player Aaron Redmond, who looked in good touch on his way to 67.

In the over immediately after tea Chanderpaul fell 11 short of his century and the visitors declared at 230 for six.

In reply, New Zealand’s opening pair of Hamish Rutherford and Peter Fulton got off to a brilliant start in the second innings. Rutherford was the aggressor, crushing an unbeaten 61 from 52 balls, while Fulton put on an unbeaten 32 from 65 balls.

At the conclusion of the day the home side were looking comfortable at 104 without loss. The third and final day will begin tomorrow at 10.30am.
