Canterbury take down Northern

Canterbury have beaten Northern by 42 runs to secure important points in the Under-18 tournament being held at Lincoln.

Canterbury managed to defend their total of 301 with some tight bowling and eventually dismissed Northern all out for 259 after 46.2 overs.

Canterbury were put into bat by Northern, but took advantage of the situation by putting on 131 for the first wicket. Ben Ward top scored with 68 and found help from co-opener David Wakefield who made 57.

Many players in the middle-order also made runs, if only starts. Freddie Anderson also went on to make his half century with 53 to get his team over the 300 mark at the end of their 50 overs.

In reply Northern put up a fight, but struggled to really push on from a solid position. It hurt them a lot when they lost Cameron Gibbons early for just three and although they did recover, they lost wickets a little too regularly throughout the innings.

In the end they fell short by 42 runs, their final score being 259 all out after 46.2 overs.
