The Northern Spirit won the toss and decided to bat in their State League Twenty20 match against the Canterbury Magicians at QEII Park in Christchurch.
Norhtern only just managed to bat out their 20 overs being nine down at the end of their inning with only 70 on the board.
In form Spirit batsman, Kate Pulford, looked like she might get going but kept losing partners and was eventually trapped LBW for 19 by Amy Satterthwaite.
The Spirit scorecard looked dismal with Anna Peterson the only other batsman to make double figures, scoring 12.
Sarah Burke and Amy Satterthwaite took two apiece for the Magicians with the team completing three runouts.
Canterbury cruised to victory with eight wickets in hand and seven overs to spare.
Opening batsman Maria Fahey was unbeaten on 38 off 40 balls.
The win puts Canterbury into second place on six points and just ahead of Central District on run-rate with three rounds to play.
