Canterbury hold on for victory

Canterbury have fought off Wellington to claim a very tight victory in their 50 over match at Lincoln.

Batting first Canterbury managed to scrape their way to 202, but Wellington fought back and only just fell short of the target in the last over.

Leo carter was the best of the batsmen for Canterbury with 52 and was helped out from a number of his team mates who made starts. Unfortunately no one really pushed on to a big total, which meant Canterbury never really reached the score they looked capable of.

In the end they were all out for 202 with two balls left in the innings.

Will Brunton was fantastic with the ball for Wellington and picked up five wickets for 41 runs in 9.4 overs.

In reply Wellington were similar to Canterbury – numerous players made valuable starts, but never really pushed on.

Sam Keegan led from the front for his team with 54, but went through far too many partners during his time at the crease.

With one wicket in hand 15 runs required to win off the last over, Wellington couldn’t make the final hurdle, eventually all out for 189 after 49.3 overs.

Sam Chamberlain was the hero for Canterbury and picked up four wickets for 45 runs off 9.3 overs.
