A fine knock of 115 from Dean Brownlie has lead New Zealand A to a 22-run victory over the England Lions in Bristol overnight.
The Northern Knights batsman collected his first List A century to ensure the victory for the Kiwis in the One Day match, which is part of a Tri-series with Sri Lanka A.
New Zealand A won the toss and made 282 thanks to Brownlie’s knock and 42 from Grant Elliott. In reply the home side could only manage 260 despite a century from Jonny Bairstow (123).
NZA Coach Bob Carter said Brownlie’s century was an outstanding knock considering the quality of the England bowling attack that had been boosted by the addition of Steve Finn from the England Test squad.
“There were 11 boundaries in Dean’s first 50 and they were all quality shots on both sides of the wicket.”
Carter also praised the efforts of the opening bowlers Matt Henry (3-48) and Scott Kuggeleijn who had prevented England getting off to a good start, while he felt Doug Bracewell’s three wicket bag (3-43) showed a real step up in his character.
“We were also very strong in the field today with two runs outs and a couple of superb catches in the outfield from Tom Latham and Anton Devcich.”
New Zealand A now face Sri Lanka A in Bristol tonight (NZ time) before meeting the England Lions again in the last match of the series in Worcester on Tuesday. Rain ruined the Kiwis’ opening fixture in the series against Sri Lanka A.
