Bond stars as Wizards beat Stags

Shane Bond was at his blistering best as the State Canterbury Wizards beat the State Central Stags at QEII park in Christchurch.

Bond took four for 19 off his four overs to restrict the Central team to 135 –- 13 runs short of the 148 Canterbury scored after being put into bat.

Shannan Stewart was in top form for the Wizards hitting a dominant 50 off 33 with Michael Papps next best with 32 off 29.

Central pace man Michael Mason took three for 22 off his full complement of four with quick left armer Mitchell McClenaghan taking two for 14 off two.

The Stags looked comfortable at 93 for three but the accurate bowling of Bond, backed up by Carl Frauenstein saw them crumble to be all out in the final over.

Frauenstein ended with three for 20 off 3.1.

One positive for the Stags was the return of form for Jamie How who made 62 off 50 balls.

It is the Canterbury Wizard’s third State Twenty20 win from five games and sees them move into third place overall.  The Central Stags are one off the bottom in fifth spot.
