Tim Southee was at his destructive best in the opening hour at the Basin Reserve, claiming three wickets to put the BLACKCAPS on top in the first Test of the summer against Sri Lanka.
Southee, along with the rest of the New Zealand seam attack kept the Sri Lankan batting in check in the first session, with Dimuth Karunaratne and Angelo Mathews taking the visitors through to lunch on 73/3.
