BLACKCAPS v India, 3rd ODI, Bay Oval

Posted Tuesday, February 11, 2020 in International News

The BLACKCAPS have become the first side to sweep India in an ODI series in more than 30 years after claiming game three by five wickets at Bay Oval.

Henry Nicholls was named ANZ Player of the Match for his controlled 80 at the top which set up a convincing chase of 296 with 17 balls to spare.

Nicholls and Guptill became the first BLACKCAPS opening pair in history to post three consecutive stands of 85 runs or more as they made their way to 106 runs in just 17 overs.

The dismissals of linchpins Williamson and Taylor through the middle were not enough to derail the chase as Tom Latham (32* off 34) and Colin de Grandhomme (58* off 28) iced the result.

Earlier, rookie paceman Kyle Jamieson struck early with one of the balls of the summer before grasping a Virat Kohli catch, as the BLACKCAPS decision to bowl first looked a good one.

KL Rahul's dream tour with the bat continued as his fourth ODI century was the nucleus of India's 296 run target.

Wellington Firebirds pace-bowler Hamish Bennett would end Rahul's innings and claim the important wickets of Shreyas Iyer (62) and Manish Pandey (42) along with Kohli's to finish with 4-64.
