England have claimed an impressive 3-2 victory in the GJ Gardner Homes ODI Series. The visitors dominated the series decider from start to finish at Hagley Oval. England carried early momentum from picking up quick wickets after winning the toss into a powerful chase.
Man of the Series Chris Woakes continued his form at both ends of England's bowling innings as the BLACKCAPS consistently lost wickets. Woakes was joined by Rashid and Ali in turning the screws on New Zealand's batting order. Not for the first time this series Rashid and Ali were able to stop any BLACKCAPS momentum through the middle.
Full scorecard.
A partnership between Henry Nicholls and Mitchell Santner offered the chief resistance for the BLACKCAPS and helped push the side towards a total to bowl to. Santner would finish on 67, his new highest ODI score.
After scraping through to 223 the BLACKCAPS needed to fire back with the ball however they met an England opening pair intent on taking the game to them. Jonny Bairstow and Alex Hales who was in for an injured Jason Roy mixed a watchful approach with controlled aggression. Bairstow racing along to score the fastest ODI hundred by an England opener in just 58 balls.
