BLACKCAPS v Bangladesh, 2nd ODI, Hagley Oval

Posted Saturday, February 16, 2019 in International News

A second ODI century in as many matches for Martin Guptill has guided the BLACKCAPS to an eight-wicket victory and a series win against Bangladesh at Hagley Oval.

The opener looked in superb touch chasing down Bangladesh’s total of 227 with relative ease in the 37th over and in the process bringing up his 16th ODI century to equal the career century tally of Nathan Astle.

Guptill along with captain Kane Williamson (65*) put on a partnership of 143 runs for the second wicket, effectively batting the visitors out of the contest.

It was then left to Williamson and Ross Taylor (21*) to take the team home.

Earlier, Lockie Ferguson took 3-43, headlining a strong all-round bowling effort from the BLACKCAPS.

Mohammad Mithun (57) was the only visiting batsman to pass 50 as Todd Astle and Jimmy Neesham chipped in with two wickets each.

Trent Boult, Matt Henry and Colin de Grandhomme all took one wicket as Bangladesh were bowled out in the final over of their innings for 226.

The three-match ODI series now heads to University Oval in Dunedin with the BLACKCAPS holding an unassailable 2-0 series lead.
