BLACKCAPS smash Sri Lanka A by 185 runs

Kyle Mills led the BLACKCAPS to a thumping 185 run win over Sri Lanka A at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.

After winning the toss and batting first the BLACKCAPS made 276 for seven and then ripped Sri Lanka out for just 91 in 22.4 overs.

Sri Lanka’s first wicket to fell after some sharp work in the field by Martin Guptill who ran out opener Dilshan Munaweera for 10.  Mills then tore through the top order, taking three wickets in three overs to reduce the home side to 25 for four.

Left-arm paceman Andy McKay followed up with two middle order wickets, including Sri Lanka’s top run scorer Dilhara Lokuhettige for 19.

The tail put up little resistance as Scott Styris, Kane Williamson and Jeetan Patel claimed one wicket each.

Mills was the best of the attack with three for 20 while McKay finished with tidy figures of two for 24.

Earlier, the BLACKCAPS total was set up by a measured 74 from opener BJ Watling and belligerent unbeaten 61 from Jacob Oram.

Oram came to the crease with the team is bit of trouble at 159 for five and quickly helped regain the ascendancy with quality stroke play combined with some massive blows.  The big all-rounder struck four boundaries and two sixes with a strike-rate of 135.55.

He was well supported by Mills who capped a fine match all-round match with 28 not out.

The BLACKCAPS next match is against India in the first match of the tri-series on Tuesday 10 August.
