Auckland rock Central

Auckland have thumped tournament leaders Central in their 50 over match at the Lincoln Under-18 tournament.

Auckland claimed an incredible 190 run win to give the competition a new lease of life with three teams now crowding the top of the table.

Auckland’s decision to bat first paid dividends early as the top order put on a stunning display to really annihilate the Central bowling attack.

The top three all delivered valuable contributions, but it was Robert O’Donnell who finished off the innings that really rubbed the salt in the wound. O’Donnell smashed an unbeaten 71 from 44 balls to take his side to an imposing 325 for five at the end of fifty overs.

The Central bowlers had a rough time of it, but the batsmen were about to get similar treatment.

A good team performance with the ball from Auckland tore through the Central batting line-up, who were unrecognisable from the side they were two days ago.

Central kept floundering and Auckland continued to dominate and finished off the job to have Central all out for 135 after 37.3 overs.

Auckland sent out a message today and are now within striking distance of the top of the position.
