BLACKCAPS TV: Two pieces of McCullum magic
Brendon McCullum's maxim in the field is "You can't ask of others what you won't do yourself."
That was plain for all to see in yesterday's fourth ANZ ODI in Nelson - viewers' hearts were in their mouth early when the skipper chased down a ball headed for the boundary, which he saved, only to barrel headlong into the fence and almost take out an inconveniently placed speaker.
Then there was this - a fully committed dive to remove Thisara Perera.
That was followed closely by this to remove Nuwan Kulasekara - a dive a football goalkeeper would be proud of to get to a hard drive, then the awareness to get the ball to McClenaghan mid-pitch, and... just watch.
Efforts like the skipper's here helped the BLACKCAPS take six Sri Lankan wickets for 31 runs at the death, and bring to total required to more chase-able levels. Let's hope for more of the same in the fifth ODI in Dunedin on Friday.
