New Zealand's six Major Associations have announced their first round of contracted female players for the 2026/27 domestic summer, with several notable movements and new faces across the country.
Among them is 17-year-old Ciara Hartland, who receives her maiden domestic contract with Canterbury on the back of outstanding performances throughout the women’s player pathway.
Hartland's rise was highlighted by an exceptional 2025 First XI Cup campaign, where she scored 392 runs at an average of 130.67, earned tournament MVP honours, and helped St Margaret's College secure a runner-up finish.
Each Major Association can announce up to 12 players in their initial round of contracting, with final contract lists to be announced later this month.
Movements
WHITE FERNS great and one of the most decorated cricketers in the world, Suzie Bates, returns to the domestic contract list with Otago for the first time since 2006 in her 23rd season.
Central Districts welcome Yaz Kareem to their setup after the opening batter spent her past four seasons with Northern Districts, where she played a part in ND's historic Hallyburton Johnstone Shield campaign last season, the association's first ever title in the List-A format.
Rishika Jaswal also switches unions, joining Northern Districts after making her domestic debut for Auckland in 2023/24 and representing the NZ U19s at the 2025 U19 World Cup. Still just 19, the talented leg-spinner adds depth to the reigning Hallyburton Johnstone Shield champions.
Olivia Gain heads to Canterbury after seven seasons playing for the Otago Sparks, with 70 List-A and 48 Super Smash appearances for the side, slotting into an experienced Magicians batting order that will be looking to build on last season's campaign.
Isy Parry completes the moves out of Otago, taking up a contract with Wellington after two seasons with the Sparks. The 21-year-old made her domestic debut last season, featuring in four Hallyburton Johnstone Shield matches, adding versatility to the Blaze as a right-hand batter who also offers right-arm off-spin.
Lucy Boucher returns to the Northern Districts contract list after being an important piece for the ND side in the Hallyburton-Johnstone Shield campaign last season.
New Faces
The 2026/27 season sees a number of new faces earning their first domestic contracts across the country.
Elizabeth Cohr of Central Districts earns her first full contract following an outstanding start to her domestic career, taking 14 wickets in just four List-A matches last season before adding a Super Smash debut.
Neha Ramanathan receives her maiden domestic contract with the Wellington Blaze following a strong 2025/26 season at Club and at Under-19 level, including finishing as the leading run-scorer in the Bates vs Devine Series.
Auckland adds Kat Thomas to the contract list, originally from Canterbury, Kat made her through the Auckland A pathway and showed strong form for the side last season, while Ella Drumm has been rewarded for a strong 2025/26 club season whilst also representing Otago A.
At Canterbury, Stella Cornelius earns her first domestic contract after an exciting start with the ball last season, playing frequently in the List-A format and memorably taking a wicket with the first ball of her Super Smash career.
Ciara Hartland, who has come through Canterbury's age-group and A-team ranks, is yet to make her Magicians debut but is considered an exciting prospect for the future.
Abby Fookes joins Otago as the association's only new contract in this year's squad, following a standout campaign for Otago's U19 Women, scoring 381 runs at the the national tournament with a century and an average of 54.42.
