Ahead of one of the most important periods of cricket for the WHITE FERNS, NZC set out to raise the visibility of the team through elevated imagery showcasing the team in a light never seen before by the New Zealand public.
The vision for the shoot was simple; create attention-grabbing imagery presenting the WHITE FERNS as the empowered, strong, professional and inspirational women that they are.
In sought-after Auckland-based photographer Holly Sarah Burgess, NZC found the ideal creative partner to execute the vision.
As well as being a hugely talented and innovative photographer, it was clear Burgess deeply connected with the vision and was going to create something truly remarkable.
NZC Head of Marketing Esther Lawrence said the August photoshoot was an effort to build on the WHITE FERNS profile as cricket superstars and role models of the young.
“This is the first time we’ve ever done something quite like this with the WHITE FERNS and it marks a big shift in direction in how we present the team,” said Lawrence.
“We wanted to elevate the women who are making women’s cricket cool by working with one of New Zealand’s most in-demand photographers, Holly Sarah Burgess.
“It felt crucial to find a photographer that connected with the vision and was a strong inspirational woman herself.
“From the moment we met Holly and discussed what we were hoping to achieve it was clear she was the right person for the job.
“The fact the WHITE FERNS are now World Champions who have inspired the country makes these images even more powerful.”
WHITE FERNS captain Sophie Devine said the team enjoyed the photoshoot and were stunned by the final images.
“We can feel a bit out of place getting our makeup done and having our photos taken at times, but the nature of how the photoshoot was conducted made us feel right at home,” said Devine.
“The girls were blown away with how the photos turned out, a few of us have said that these are the kind of images you get framed and show the grandkids one day.
“We didn’t know that just a few weeks after these photos were taken we’d become T20 World Cup Champions, so I feel like these photos will always remind us of a really special time in our lives.”
The images will be launched on the WHITE FERNS social media channels throughout the coming week.
The WHITE FERNS take on Australia in a three-match ODI series at Wellington’s Cello Basin Reserve on December 19, 21, and 23.
Since announcing that the 1st ODI will be Free Entry, NZC has seen a surge in ticket reservations for the match.
The newly crowned ICC T20 World Champions will display their World Cup trophy at the upcoming matches, giving fans the chance to see it up close and capture photos.
The matches will be live-scored at nzc.nz and the NZC App, and broadcast live free-to-air on TVNZ+, DUKE and Sport Nation.
