New Zealand Cricket appoints Geoff Allott to new role

Former BLACKCAP Geoff Allott has been appointed as New Zealand Cricket’s new General Manager of Cricket.

In the new role Allott will be responsible for overseeing the BLACKCAPS and elite cricket functions including coaching, selectors, team support staff and management, as well as cricket operations.

NZC Chief Executive Justin Vaughan said he’s delighted at Allott’s appointment to this newly-created position. “Geoff brings a track record of achievement, both as a respected international cricketer and through his recent experience building and managing a successful business.”

“This is an important new role for New Zealand Cricket. Geoff will be pulling together our high performance cricket areas, driving world-class performance and ensuring we reach our strategic goals.”  Allott is expected to take up the new role by early March, Vaughan said.

Allott’s experience in the international arena gives him a good understanding of the issues and opportunities New Zealand Cricket faces at the top level.  “Our game has a good foundation to build on over the coming years and tremendous scope for improvement,” he said. “I’m excited about being able to contribute and make a difference.”

Allott was a BLACKCAP from 1995/96 to 2000, playing 10 tests and 31 ODIs.  A left-arm pace bowler, Allott starred at the 1999 World Cup – taking 20 wickets in nine matches and setting a then competition record which he shared with Shane Warne.

Since retiring from cricket in 2001 Allott has had a successful career in banking and finance. In 2004 he co-founded FACE Finance Ltd, a company that has become a subsidiary of South Canterbury Finance Ltd and chaired by respected businessman Mr Allan Hubbard. The company has expanded to operate throughout New Zealand, dealing mainly in commercial plant and equipment finance. Allott holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Management from Lincoln University.
