Vincent century sets up record win

The Auckland Aces rewrote the record books with the highest Twenty20 domestic total of 229 in the HRV Cup match against the Wellington Firebirds at Colin Maiden Park, Auckland.

The total was set up by a massive 149 run opening stand between Martin Guptill and Lou Vincent.

Guptill cracked 62 off only 35 deliveries but Vincent continued on, raising his ton and carrying his bat throughout the innings.

Vincent’s 105 came off only 60 balls and included eight fours and six sixes.  A late cameo of 40 from 21 by Scott Styris helped propel the total to a record score.

All off the Firebirds attack were savaged with Jeetan Patel the only bowler to go for less than ten an over, finishing with one for 33 off his four.

In reply, Neil Parlane did his best to chase down the impregnable total with a solid 85 from 50 but he lacked support as the risky shots kept wickets tumbling at the other end.

Fifth placed HRV Cup MVP, Daryl Tuffey was the pick of the Aces attack taking two for 26 off his four overs.

The win sees the Auckland Aces hold onto third spot on the table the Wellington Firebirds one spot off the bottom in fifth.
