Spirit Lose Despite Outstanding Century From Browne

The Central Hinds won the toss and elected to bat, putting on 265 against the Northern Spirit in their State League match at Blake Park, Mt Maunganui.

It was a game that mirrored yesterdays match with Northern chasing well with Central holding on for the victory – this time by 18 runs.

Sara McGlashan was the only Hinds player to reach a half century with a controlled 55 off 68 balls, with contributions from Aimee Mason 42, Kate Broadmore 47 and Rachel Priest 49.

The Northern bowlers struggled to find the right line with eight bowlers being used and 34 extras being conceded.

The exception being Louise Milliken who only went for 31 runs off eight overs and sneered two wickets.

Northern looked to be on track at 227 for six, with Nicola Browne playing aggressively and the run rate being manageable.

Once Browne was dismissed for an outstanding 101 off 94 balls the Spirit lost their way with the lower middle order unable to pull through.

The victory puts Central in outright second spot after four rounds and only one win away from the competition leaders Wellington.
