Horne again leads from front

Auckland came out convincing victors after a seven wicket victory against host Canterbury in the Under-18 tournament being held at Lincoln.

Canterbury were held to just 168 after being all out in 48.5 overs. Auckland Captain Ben Horne made sure his side had no problem chasing it down.

Canterbury opted to bat first and while getting numerous starts, nobody really pushed on to the big score that was required.

Wakefield top scored with 45, but again didn’t push on and failed to create a substantial partnership with any of his team mates.

After 48.5 overs Canterbury had slumped to 168 all out, the tail providing little resistance against the Auckland bowlers.

Shaun Hicks was prolific with the ball and picked up a five wicket bag in his 7.5 overs for just 13 runs.

In reply it only took one man to take the game away from Canterbury and that was Ben Horne. Horne once again saw his side home and once again finished not out in the 90’s.

His 92 was easily the highest score of the match, but seeing the Auckland side to victory with him was David Winn with 31 not out. It meant Auckland were seven wicket victors after 42.2 overs.

The win helps Auckland keep in touch with competition leaders Central Districts.
