Hinds Win by 10 at Blake Park

The Central Hinds won the toss and decided to bat in their State League match against the Northern Spirit at Blake Park in Mt Maunganui.

It was a shaky start for the Hinds who lost early wickets and were looking vulnerable at 137 for seven.

An eighth wicket partnership of 70 runs between captain Rachel Priest and number nine batsman Michele Frey steadied the innings, enabling Central to make a respectable total of 235.

Priest top scored with 64 and Frey remained 42 not out at the end of the innings.

The Spirit fielded well with nine of the wickets to fall came from run outs.

Nineteen year old Natalie Edwards was the pick of the bowlers taking three for 43 of her ten.

It was a determined chase by the Northern Spirit team who managed 225 in reply before being bowled out ten runs short of their target.

The innings was anchored by White Ferns batsman Nicola Browne who was dismissed two runs short of her century.

Abby Burrows, Kate Broadmore and Kelly Winkley picked up two wickets each, with Winkley’s the most economical, conceding only 33 runs from her allotted overs.

The result leaves Northern winless after three rounds and allows Central to leap into second place overall.
