New Hinds captain Anlo van Deventer’s one-day season got off to a disappointing beginning as she split the webbing in her hand early doors, needing stitches and ruling her out of the remaining weekend.
Vice-captain Hannah Rowe therefore stepped into the leadership as the young hosts attempted to redress their T20 loss the evening before against the strong Wellington Blaze.

Van Deventer had elected to bowl, but a 129-run opening stand between powerhouses Rachel Priest (44) and Lucy Doolan (82) quicky steered Blaze into pole for the match.
Even with Mikaela Greig (3-40) making a brilliant triple strike in the 23rd over, Priest, Amelia Kerr and Suzie McDonald all departing in the space of five balls, and the latter two placing Greig on a hat-trick, the openers had gone a long way fast to setting up Blaze’s solid total of 290-9.

Just as the Hinds had got their chins up again, Fran Wilson (34) and Blaze captain Liz Perry (62) wiped away their smiles.
Teenager Georgia Atkinson claimed 2-18 on one-day debut, but there was little to celebrate for the hosts as a rocky start quickly had them in trouble at 15/3, and without van Deventer able to bat.
Kerry Tomlinson top-scored with 46 and Rowe offered 29, but it just wasn’t enough from the combined line-up as the hosts were bowled out for 136 in 34.3 overs.
For Blaze, the star had been leg-spinner Deanna Doughty who opened the bowling and claimed 5-26 from 9.3 overs, her best bowling figures.
