Consolation win for Blaze

The defending champions in the one-day format, the Canterbury Magicians clocked in a last-round loss to end a challenging 2017/18 campaign.

Scores

Playing the final match on the Basin Reserve, the Magicians got off to a strong start after having been sent in by Liz Perry, Frankie Mackay and Evelyn Jones (below) putting on 90 for the opening stand.

Mackay was run out on 35 but Jones powered on to 81. Unfortunately for the Mags, that ended up being more than half the team’s total as the rest of the order folded to be all out for 170 with seven balls unutilised.

Amelia Kerr (3-24 off her 10) had been to the fore with the ball, claiming the big wickets of Kate Ebrahim, Jones and then young Ally Mace-Cochrane, as well as having a hand in the relay runout that removed dangerous captain Mackay.

Blaze made light work of chasing down their target, first drop Suzie McDonald belting an unbeaten 86 and Lucy Doolan 54 at the top as they finished the one-day season with the consolation prize of an eight-wicket win.
