The Central Hinds successfully defended 104/8 after none of the Sparks could emulate captain Suzie Bates’ impact at the top of the order.
Bates scored 38 in the Sparks’ tally of 98/9, her side losing by just six runs in a last-over heartstopper.
Young spinning allrounder Jess Watkin starred for the Hinds with 3-17 off her four overs.
The two sides meet at the same venue over the next two days in the Women’s One-Day competition.
