Canterbury smash Northern

Canterbury have taught Northern Districts a lesson with an eight wicket win in a Twenty20 Provincial A tournament match.

Northern only managed to post a measly 104 from their twenty over, a total Canterbury had little problem chasing down.

Northern’s decision to bat first didn’t work out as they may have hoped as they slipped down to 28 for five.

They would make a slight recovery thanks to contributions from Daryl Mitchell (31) and Brandin Hiini (31), but their final total was still a poor one though.

At the end of 20 overs Northern were sitting at 104 for seven.

Matt McEwan was one of the main reasons for such a low total as he picked up figures of three for 24 from four overs.

The bowling display was backed up by a solid batting performance as well.

Keryn Ambler was the back bone of the chase and contributed an unbeaten 65. He found help from co-opener Joel Abraham who assisted with 22.

Henry Nicholls put Northern out of their misery after 14.2 overs with a four to seal an eight wicket win for the home side.
