Canterbury’s Magicians cast their spell further over the national One-Day competition as they made it seven wins from seven starts, this time against the Central Hinds at Hagley Oval.
The Hinds’ 140 for seven in the rain-reduced 29-over match after winning the toss just wasn’t enough to put serious pressure on the form team of the season who chased the runs down in just the 24th over of the reply.
Captain Amy Satterthwaite remained throughout, unbeaten on 42 with Jacinta Savage after the last moment loss of top scorer Thamsyn Newton (62 off 40). Satterthwaite became the first woman to reach 4000 One-Day runs for Canterbury in the process. She is the third most prolific run-scorer of the season (271 runs) together with being the competition's leading wicket-taker (13 wickets).
Newton’s dismissal made it two wickets for Rosemary Mair, while Hannah Rowe bagged a class 50th One-Day wicket for the Central Hinds when she bowled Frances Mackay on 19 before the Mags chalked up their seven-wicket win, all the other teams now requiring at least three wins and at least one bonus point to get past the likely Finalist up on the top of the table.
