Blaze Chalk Up Another Comfortable Win

The competition leaders didn't click today as they were rolled for 134 by the Otago Sparks in their State League match at Karori Park but some excellent bowling allowed them defend their small total.

A few Blaze batsmen got starts with no one kicking on - Lucy Doolan was again effective at the top of the order scoring 42, Amanda Cooper made it to 21 and Sophie Devine hit five fours in her 25.

It was the spin bowling that troubled Wellington with Otago off spinner Tanya Morrison taking the important wickets of Doolan, Wakefield and Devine to end with figures of three for 29.  leg spinner Emma Campbell cleaned up the tail taking four for 31.

Otago started their chase positively and were looking on track at 49 without loss until Katey Martin was dismissed for 24 and followed shortly by her opening partner Suzie Bates for 19 - Otago's two highest scorers.

The Sparks then lost their last eight wickets for 23 runs to be all out for 76.

Amanda Cooper tore through the Sparks line up to finish with her career best figures of six for nine off  ten overs and kept her sides unbeaten State League record intact.

Wellington are definitely the team to beat this year with an outstanding batting line up matched by their bowling talent.

Otago will need to regroup quickly if they are to mount a serious challenge this season.
