The State Auckland Aces have moved two points ahead of the State Central Stags after beating Otago by an innings and 84 runs in their State Championship match at the Queenstown Events Centre.
Seam bowlers Andy McKay and Lance Shaw did the damage today to dismiss Otago for 240, following the good first innings work of Daryl Tuffey and Tarun Nethula when the hosts reached just 210.
In between times, Auckland compiled 534 for seven declared, proving the Events Centre ground wasn't the minefield Otago made it appear.
Resuming at 428 for five today, the visitors added 106 more this morning in snappy time, allowing wicketkeeper Reece Young to become the third centurion of the innings after Richard Jones and Anaru Kitchen.
Young's 100 not out off 147 balls was his fifth at first class level and prompted the declaration immediately.
Wickets fell in clumps for Otago today, losing three at 81 and five as the score advanced from 191 to 196.
Neil Broom's 79 was the only score of note while Mathew Harvie and Nick Beard put on 44 for the final wicket to prolong the agony. Young No 11 Beard finished unbeaten on 32.
McKay snared four for 58 while Martin bagged three for 49 in a confidence-boosting outcome ahead of the first test against India starting on Wednesday.

Day 2: Aces on top after centuries from Jones and Kitchen
The State Auckland Aces are in a strong position after reaching 428 for five, giving them a 218 run lead at the end of day two in their State Championship match at the Queenstown Events Centre.
Tim McIntosh and Richard Jones put on 169 for the first wicket before McIntosh was dismissed for 74. Jones kicked on to make 102.
However, it was Anaru Kitchen who was the most impressive with a stunning 125 which included 13 fours and four sixes. It was Kitchen’s maiden first-class ton in only his second match.
Matthew Harvie was the best for the Volts picking up three for 82.
Day 1: Tuffey and Nethula put Aces on top
The State Auckland Aces have bowled out the State Otago Volts for 210 after winning the toss putting them into bat in the State Championship match at the Queenstown Event Centre.
Otago opening batsman Leighton Morgan was the best of the batting line-up with 54 but wickets fell at the other end as they were reduced to 108 for four.
A fifth wicket stand of 56 between Jordan Sheed and Shaun Haig got the inning back on track but the loss of the last six wicket for 46 runs saw the Aces on top.
Former BLACKCAP pace bowler Daryl Tuffey is was the best for Auckland with four for 32 including an incredible eight maidens.
Spinner Tarun Nethula was also on target with four for 39 off 13 overs and now sits fifth on the State MVP Championship bowling rankings.
The Aces have made the ideal start to their first innings with opening batsmen Tim McIntosh and Richard Jones unbeaten on 30 and 33 respectively.
