Wizards edge thriller

Daniel Flynn and James Marshall led an impressive Northern Knights batting performance but Canterbury Wizards dug in for a thrilling victory in their return to State Shield action at Christchurch’s QEII Park.

Flynn posted his highest One-Day score of 149 – second only to Marshall’s 152 – and shared a 210 run stand with the former BLACKCAP, who made 96, to lead their side to 313 for seven.

The Canterbury reply began strongly, with a century second-wicket stand between Michael Papps (90) and Johann Myburgh (53) strengthening their position.

Shanan Stewart added 58, and led home by cameos from Brandon Hiini (33) and Chris Harris, with three sixes for 39 from 25 balls, Canterbury returned to contention for the play-off stage.
